Short Note, 1 (Negative Nihilist Ontology & Zen Cyborgs)

Invoking far-reaching consequences, empty space precludes space itself, as emptiness precludes empty space. A chain of ‘somethings,’ congeal, like an eddy of finitude on (a/the) sea of infinite nothingness. Negative Nihilist Ontology posits radically that nothing exits everywhere. And this nothing is the upsurge that is called something. Not just ‘something’ but chains, breaks, flows, crashes, symbioses, parasites, growths, decays and retractions of somethings. Paradoxically, nothingness permeates being to its core. Cogitating nothing, subjectivity cannot conceive of a nothing. Nothingness is simultaneously discrete and ubiquitous; ever present in its absence, it runs, withdraws and remains elusive, illusive and allusive. Implying or inferring nothingness conceptually is infinities. Multiple, polyvalent, directionless yet sourcing all direction and particularity, nothingness resides at the core of something. It is ‘coiled in being like a worm’ according to Jean-Paul Sartre (Being & Nothingness). For Sartre, the plenitude of being is. Being is what it is. Nothingness explodes being-in-itself, creating spaces, horizons and consciousness, a consciousness for-itself, and the arising being-for-itself temporalizes itself. Stretches itself out over, under and through being. And being with being and nothingness is a thing. Being is. Nothingness is not. For Sartre, the intermingling is a creation itself.

“Ensō (円相) is a Japanese word meaning “circle” and a concept strongly associated with Zen. Ensō is one of the most common subjects of Japanese calligraphy even though it is a symbol and not a character. It symbolizes the Absolute enlightenment, strength, elegance, the Universe, and the void” Courtesy:

Negative Nihilist Ontology proposes another route. Infinite seas of nothingness, without spaces, places, times, or somethings, sometimes give rise to finite realities. Multiple infinities intersect, and these intersections are perhaps places where multiverses are engaged, maintained and dissipated. Oblivion awaits and precedes something. Every something is triangulated from nothing toward nothing. Reality is a reality-toward-nothing. Even the temporal notion of “now” is a now-toward-nothing-and-from-nothing. Now slips from absence to absence, through the presence of absences; for without the ever-present absences nothing would cease into pure being. So how then can pure being give rise to something? It is absence arising that allows something to be present, as a relief against the plenitude of everything, which would congeal into a compressed every-no-thing. Multiple infinities, totally nothings (as are all infinities, for to be infinite is to be no-thing), intersect – somewhere, and this somewhere is a posteriori – effect precedes cause. Linear temporal causation is therefore a chimera of a being-for-itself within a stratum of something. Removing the folds, the chimera disappears and the being-for-itself transmutes into atemporality. Transmutative post-human technologies pose the question: do beings, subjectively understood, exist in ‘our’ future that cogitate without temporality? Or more radically: do spacial and temporal dynamics break down after subjective, embodied thresholds breakthrough into multiple infinities? Is there a Zen, cyborg fusion leading subjectivity to the cliff, and ‘we’ are currently in the interregnum between Historical Time Consciousness, industrial-based linearity, and absolute nothingness paradoxically permeating plenitude?

Only time will tell? …
